Peas are a cool season crop, enjoying temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees so they are well suited to the UK climate. Peas can be direct sown outdoors from March to June once the soil has warmed to about 10 degrees. Using cloches will help the earliest crops to germinate. Peas like cooler temperatures. They need some sun for four to five hours a day to produce flowers and pods. Planting them in a cool shady spot will lengthen your growing season.
