Broad beans are normally sown in the spring, from February to April. The ideal soil temperature for germinating organic broad bean seeds is about 12 degrees but anywhere between 7 to 15 degrees will give good results. Bean plants need to be in an area that receives full sunlight, which means eight to ten hours of sunlight daily. Planting beans in an area that receives six to seven hours of full sunlight daily can reduce the plants' expected yield.
